 Active Schools Basketball | Prestonpans

Basketball is a fast-paced, energetic team sport that is brilliant for improving hand-eye coordination, agility and stamina. Players will take part in a variety of games and activities to learn and develop the fundamental skills of Basketball, such as dribbling, passing and shooting.

We're planning for a return to Basketball in 2025-26, although it may look a little different to previous years. Our aim for this school year is to bring extra-curricular Basketball directly to the Primary Schools, offering a block of lunchtime Basketball Clubs on a rotation around all of the local Primary Schools. Where possible, we will aim to recruit a volunteer to assist and shadow during the initial lunch clubs, with a view to them carrying the sessions forward (this will depend on whether we are able to recruit a volunteer).

If you would be interested in supporting us to bring Basketball to your child's school by volunteering, please contact ssands@elcschool.org.uk. Previous experience is not required, we can offer training (mainly through shadowing during the initial lunch clubs) and resources to support with planning and delivery going forward.

Please see below for details of the latest available classes.

Please note: the deadline for booking is 2 working days before the start of the activity block. This is to help us ensure we know participant numbers and information in advance of classes starting, and allow us time to prepare registers and share this information with coaches and activity leaders. If you would like to book after this time or after an activity block has started, please email Stewart Sands, Active Schools Coordinator directly at ssands@elcschool.org.uk to check if spaces are available.

14th August 2025 | Update from Stewart Sands, Active Schools Coordinator

Hello! We're looking forward to the 2025-26 school year and are in the process of planning our activity programme for Term 1 and beyond.

Due to annual leave through early September, most activities will start after the September Break (with the exception of Beginner Karate).

With various changes in availability for a few of our volunteers, there may be changes to last year's programme, and in some cases we may be unable to reintroduce all activities. However, we are aiming to recruit more volunteers to help us provide a range of activities and opportunities throughout the year. Please keep an eye out for updates from your child's school.

Thank you for your ongoing support - Stewart.
