Hidden History in the Hidden Toun (Afternoon) 2023

Tuesday 12th September

2:00pm - 4:00 pm

Haddington is an historic market town which has more than made its mark on Scotland’s history.

Lorna Colvin-Maclean is a Committee Member of Haddington’s History Society and a professionally trained and recently qualified Tourist Guide for all of Scotland with the Scottish Tourist Guide Association. During Lorna’s training she was constantly impressed with Haddington’s impact and pivotal role in Scottish history. Lorna believes Haddington is a town which not only shared in Scotland’s history but was responsible for dramatically changing it!

Please join Lorna and the Archivist at the John Gray Centre as we unveil amazing artefacts and documents relating specifically to Haddington’s enigmatic and intriguing past. Spoiler alert: there are royal seals of Scotland’s Kings and Queens and documents revealing the trials and tribulations of life in one of Scotland’s oldest Royal Burghs.

After delving into the hidden archives, we’ll walk around the town to discover more about Haddington’s past: its important characters and characteristics – some of which are hiding in plain sight and others not so much!

This tour will appeal to new and life-long residents of Haddington, as it will be an opportunity for those attending not just to listen but also to share their insights into the Hidden History of the Hidden Toun.
