East Lothian Archaeology & Heritage Fortnight 2023

The summer of '48 - the history of the opening month of the great siege of Haddington - July 1548 (2023)

Saturday 9th September

7:00pm - 9:00 pm

Join Dr Jon Cooper from the University of Glasgow's Centre for War Studies and Conflict Archaeology for a detailed and fascinating insight into the military history surrounding the first months of the great Siege of Haddington. Jon will reveal a day by day, hour by hour, account of the fighting in and around the town and the incredible events evolving around the county.  Join him in the French siege lines, on beleaguered English ramparts, for the 'Tuesday Chase' along the Tyne, atop the tower of St Mary's when royalty came to call and at the Abbey for the signing of the treaty that would send Mary Queen of Scots to France. This is an incredibly detailed insight to those first days of what was to become debatably Scotland's longest siege.

Cost: Free but donations to Haddington History Society welcome. Booking required
