East Lothian Archaeology & Heritage Fortnight

Defending East Lothian against invasion in World War II 2024

Sunday 8 September

10:00 am – c.1:30 pm

Join Gullane and Dirleton History Society on a guided walk around Aberlady Bay Nature Reserve to explore the remains of defences from World War II.  We will also cross the sands of Aberlady Bay at low tide to visit the wrecks of two XT craft midget submarines and hear the role they played.

This is a moderate walk of about 9 km and will be exposed to all weathers.  Bring waterproofs, walking boots, a snack and drink.

There will be an opportunity to purchase the Society's publications about local links to the world wars.
