Haddington is an historic market town which has more than made its mark on Scotland’s history. St Mary’s Church, in size and stature, stands as an authentic example of resilience, fortitude and reinvention. It has borne witness to many dramatic episodes in the history of Scotland. Over 600 years it has survived destruction and undermining, partitioning and redesigning, and was reroofed and restored to its cathedral proportions once more - only 50 years ago.

St Mary’s already offers a self-guided tour to visitors with volunteers available for more information and a friendly welcome. But there’s always more they’d really like to show and tell visitors from near and far about this most amazing and historic jewel we have hidden in plain sight.

Haddington’s History Society in collaboration with St Mary’s Church invite you to discover more about St Mary’s history and its important role in Scotland’s history.  Lorna Colvin-Maclean will provide an historic overview and then with Wendy Lund, Stewart Macrae and John Weierter, we will guide small groups around the inside and outside of the Church looking for clues and evidence of historic events.
