East Lothian Archaeology & Heritage Fortnight

Witch hunts, torture and trials – the downright dangerous 1600s! 2024 – 2pm

Wednesday 11 September

2:00 – 4:00 pm

Haddington is an historic market town which has more than made its mark on Scotland’s history and we can prove it!  This year we will take another deep dive into the John Gray Centre archives to reveal the fascinating and downright dangerous 1600s. Spoiler alert: kings, ministers, witches and wizards - we have the evidence on file and more besides! These are documents and artefacts rarely seen and have been curated just for these historic tours.

Please join Lorna Colvin-MacLean from Haddington’s History Society and the Ruth Fyfe archivist at the John Gray Centre as we discuss and look ever so closely at the documents we’ve unearthed from deep in the archives.

After delving into the hidden archives, we’ll walk to the hotspots of the 1600s and remember some of those who survived, and those who did not, Haddington’s perilous past.

Cost: £10 (All funds raised will go to Haddington’s History Society)
