Developing Confidence in Assessment and Moderation

What is the purpose of this professional learning opportunity? To support and develop professional development in how to evaluate and monitor learners’ progress, including the use of standards within the Experiences, Outcomes and Benchmarks, to support professional practice within the Learning, Teaching and Assessment Cycle (Moderation Cycle)

Workshop Date – 20.01.2021 4.00-5.30pm via Google Meet

Led by Education Scotland Attainment Advisor Amanda Hamilton and NIF Attainment Officer Sharon Brown, focussing on:

  • Types of assessment: When to use formative or summative assessment approaches
  • Selection of assessment type – choosing the most appropriate assessment approach to reflect the learning.
  • The nature of assessment tasks -  ensuring ‘fit for the purpose’ to assess the learning and not the activity; involving learners in how they choose to evidence their learning.
  • Takeaway Task: Attendees will develop and implement a moderation and assessment approach, reflecting their needs as classroom practitioners, to develop professional learning in a reflective context. Professional learning from this will be discussed at the ‘Blether’ Sessions in March

Blether Date – 04.03.2021 4.00-5.30pm via Google Meet

To reflect on attendees learning from their takeaway task

  • What did you do and why?
  • What was a success? What was a challenge?
  • What did you learn from this? What are you going to do next?

Two pieces of pre-event professional reading to support this learning are Assessment in the Broad and General Education and Education Scotland National Thematic Inspections BGE
