Join military historian Dr Jon Cooper on a trip around 16th century Haddington looking for the hidden clues and evidence of the Great Siege of Haddington, debatably Scotland's longest. This is a story of war, religion and European monarchical power set in the East Lothian countryside with Haddington at its heart. What happened in Haddington resonated across Europe and with mercenaries coming from across the continent to live and die among the streets and alleyways of the town. For siege raged for 15 months before lack of supplies, lack of money and political intrigue forced the English to abandon the town leaving behind, as Mary of Guise noted, nothing but the plague.
